What does the Bible say about work?
Work was part of the good design
Before anything went wrong in Genesis, people were given the task of tending the garden. Work is not a punishment. Making, building, caring, and serving are ways of reflecting a creative God.
Any honest work can matter
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." This applies to cleaning, coding, parenting, driving, or leading. No honest work is too ordinary to be done for God.
Work is not your worth
The Bible also guards against work becoming an idol. Your value does not come from your job title or productivity. That frees you to work well without being crushed by it.
Rest is part of the plan
God built a rhythm of rest into the week. Overworking is not more faithful. Taking real rest is a way of trusting that the world does not depend on you alone.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving., Colossians 3:23-24
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans., Proverbs 16:3Ask your own question →
Does God care about my job?
Yes. Scripture treats everyday work as something that can be offered to God, not as separate from your faith.
What if I hate my job?
That is a real struggle. You can bring it honestly to God, look for meaning where you can, and also feel free to pursue a change. Staying is not automatically more spiritual.
What if I am out of work right now?
Your worth to God does not depend on having a job. It is a hard season, and it is okay to ask for help, practical and emotional.
