Discussion questions
Paul asks, "Did God reject his people? By no means!" (v. 1). Why does it matter that God keeps his promises to Israel?
Verse 5 says there is "a remnant chosen by grace." What does it mean that God is always at work, even when it looks like few people are following him?
In the olive tree picture (vv. 17 to 24), non-Jewish believers are "grafted in." What does that teach about pride and humility?
Verse 22 says "consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God." Why do we need to see both?
Verse 29 says "God's gifts and his call are irrevocable." What does that tell you about how God treats people?
Paul ends in praise: "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!" (v. 33). When was the last time you were simply amazed by God?
For our lives this week
When you don't understand what God is doing this week, try praying verse 33 instead of demanding an answer.
Close in prayer
Thank God that he keeps his promises and that his mercy reaches everyone. Praise him for who he is, like Paul does at the end of this chapter.
Leader tip
Christians disagree about what "all Israel will be saved" means in verse 26. Mention the main views briefly, then move to the praise at the end of the chapter.
